As a Trust, Port of Blyth recognises its responsibility to the wider community, playing a key role in the sub-regional and regional economy, facilitating the efficient movement of goods and providing significant direct and indirect employment.
The Port works closely with local government and other regional partners to ensure that the benefits of the Port are maximised whilst at the same time minimising any potential for disturbance from port operations. To this end community liaison groups have been established on both sides of the River Blyth, advising of port developments, considering ongoing improvements to environmental controls and looking at opportunities for increasing the benefits that the Port can offer to the wider community.

The Port is also a key partner in SENNTRi (South East Northumberland North Tyneside Regeneration Initiative) which aims to maximise the social and economic benefits of the sub-region. A major focus of this initiative is the regeneration of the Blyth Estuary and the Port has already played a significant role in delivering positive improvements with a continued focus on some major "step change" objectives still to come.

Supporting regional events and organisations is also an important element of the Port’s community strategy with beneficiaries including the Blyth in a New Light Festival, Wansbeck Business Awards, Blyth Maritime Festival, Blyth Spartans Football Club, Blyth Town Fair and local schools to name but a few.
